It is the term applied to the process of allowing warm herbal oils on the head for a specific period of time. A bandage is tied around the patient’s head and an open-headed cap is secured. Then, medicated oil is warmed to the body temperature, poured into this cap and allowed to soak into the scalp. Oils and herbs are boiled in a special way in order to extract their maximum medicinal properties.


Procedure Of The Treatment

The primary step of Sirovasthi starts with the application of warm medicated oil which is an amalgam of gingerly oil, castor oil, milk, ghee and other herb extracts. It helps to nourish the nerve ends and prepares the body for the main treatment. Then, a cylindrical shaped leather cap of over ten inches length with both ends open is fitted around the head of the patient. Certain amount of different blended herbal oils is then poured on the patient’s head. This oil is retained on the head for around 30 to 45 minutes as per an individual’s body type. During this treatment, the healing properties of the medicated oil act on the brain and tune the central and autonomous nervous system. The patient’s brain, peripheral nerves and spinal cord receives the medicinal effects of this oil. Consequently, several nerve disorders get restored and the mind gets relief from stress. The complete duration of the treatment varies as per the patient’s condition and type of disease. Normally, the doctor suggest for a 7 or 14 days treatment course to get effective results.
